Kudos to SLPL - the placer of the numerous new letterboxes in the St. Louis Public Libraries. If appears the library district has a letterboxing angel. Well done.

yes Kudos indeed. No one in St. Lou has heard of this but it should be fun to find them all. Hopefully it will jumpstart the area. Especially with theLBCON coming in July.My only guess is that the Library is running programs on letterboxing this summer. If they need any help, I hope they'll contact one of us! The B HUnters

I was pretty excited to see these! Believe me, I plan to snag as many of these as I can while they are available - month of April only!

Yes, and I know the backstory: I planted a "mini-mystery" box in a SLPL library which was subsequently found by accident by a librarian. We corresponded a bit, but she didn't actually sound terribly interested - next thing you know, she emails to tell me they are planting in all the libraries! The SLPL account/planter name was created specifically for these boxes.

These are limited-time-only, for the month of April. I was thinking of emailing her to ask if perhaps these boxes could return in July for LB Con...any thoughts on that?

I was getting ready to post something on our website. I didn't realize that they were limited.
Sure, I think you should let her know about LB Con, the number of families that letterbox, etc.
Thanks,
Mark

Also how some of the very first letterboxes in the US were planted in libraries.
Here's a link to Tom Cooch's original library box that is still there, I believe:

The public libraries in York County, Pennsylvania did an "Activity Bug" series last year that ran through the entire summer: thirty boxes in area parks with custom-ordered, self-inking stamps of different insects. Obviously, not everyone who participated had the best boxing technique (and as far as I know, none of the noxers took up letterboxing as a result), but a lot of families got outside and used the parks. I think I prefer St. Louis' approach. This won't create social trails and inexperienced kids won't get poison ivy in the face.

That would be a wonderful idea! My sister and I would absolutely go out of our way for this series! Please convince them to do so. If I can do anything to help in this effort, just say the word!

Mohmers? THE Mohmers? Who planted the earliest boxes in the St. Louis area? Hi! Nice to hear from you!

I got the one at the Schlafly library today...lovely stamp! Not hand-carved, but custom. :-)

If you want to meet up for an exchange sometime, let me know!

Maybe we could think about a mini-meet a couple weeks before LB Con... have a stitch 'n' b**ch, but with carving and logbook making and whatnot. :-) Nothing big, just meet up in a coffee shop or something.
